Biography

D-Train, born James Nelson Williams in Brooklyn, New York, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer best known for pioneering the 1980s post-disco and R&B sound. He rose to fame alongside keyboardist Hubert Eaves III with the duo’s 1981 chart-topping debut hit, “You’re the One for Me”. James Williams got the nickname “D-Train” as a high school football star in Brooklyn. He teamed with keyboardist Hubert Eaves, III from 1981 to 1985 as D-Train, and they enjoyed two Top 20 and one Top R&B hit during their tenure. Williams had one Top 10 and one Top 20 R&B single from 1986 to 1988 on Columbia, with “Misunderstanding” peaking at #10.
